Spinning The Dreidels

November 30, 2017

Looks like just a basket of dreidels. What would you say if I told you that it generated a flurry of “research.” Yesterday after playing with them, we started analyzing which ones spun better and why. Why did the one with the point not spin as well as the one with the dome shaped end? Was the best spinner metal, plastic, or wood? We found one that was a square based pyramid... that didn’t spin well. What happened next warms a teacher’s heart. My students took it upon themselves to try spinning the dreidels on different surfaces of the classroom! This creates lots of excitement for learning generated by the children’s own desire to learn more.
